Open Mic from 7 pm til 8:30 pm, followed by Sound Check (Rory Ian White & Keven Huffman) in OUR Feature Spot!
Rory and Keven have been friends for about 8 years, playing music both together and separately and at times, are also, often joined by Ellie Young, an exceptional vocalist and ‘stand-up bass’ player, where the 3 make up ‘The Porch Pickers.’ When Ellie is away working, Rory and Keven find they play gigs more often as a duo than as singles and thus have created ‘Sound Check.’
Rory has always had a guitar around but began taking it more seriously about 10 years ago, when he started to check out coffee shops that held open mics. As a natural ‘people-person’ Rory found it a natural fit for himself to start hosting open mics and has done so in various locations over the years. He has also emceed various events in addition to performing at them. Some of those include, The Grindrod Music Festival, The Grindrod Garlic Festival, The Caravan Farmer’s Market, The Coldstream Coffee House, The Enderby Arts and Music Festival and The Kindale Autumn Auction. He plays a few different genres, Country, Folk, Soft Rock, Ballads and original songs. Rory is happy to simply be able to entertain people and loves to contribute to the music scene in general.
Keven has many years of experience as well and was regularly involved in The Coldstream Coffee House as well as other events, has hosted open mics as well, and also loves to perform his original tunes. Hailing from such musical power-houses as The Porch Pickers and Back Road, his duo with Ellie Young, this North Okanagan singer/song writer’s music has been described as a soothing melee of acoustic – jazz -folk rock -fusion.
